In Stardew Valley, players often accumulate a massive pile of items that can appear very chaotic. If you’re planning to sort and categorize them, how should you go about organizing your items into zones? For fellow farmers looking to tidy up their clutter, check out these storage and zoning techniques.

Stardew Valley

Preparation

Before starting your organization project, complete these steps:

  1. Visit Robin the Carpenter and pay gold to upgrade your Cabin to a 7×3 Large House.

  2. Purchase a Workbench (2000g). Once placed, it can automatically pull materials from the eight regular Chests surrounding it for quick crafting.

  3. Craft Wood Signs (25 Wood each). You can add text to label each zone, preventing confusion.

  4. Note: The Workbench only connects to regular Chests; it cannot pull items from Junimo Chests.

Recommended Zone Layout (7 Zones Total)

Zone 1: Crafting Area (Right Side)

Arrange seven large Chests around your Workbench to store basic materials and frequently used items.

  • Mineral Chest: Ores, Gems, Prismatic Shards.

  • Drops Chest: Fiber, Wood, Slime, Stone.

  • Sea Creatures Chest: Seaweed, Mussels, Sea Jelly, etc.

  • Foraging/Seeds Chest: Forest forageables and seed reserves.

  • Special Items Chest: Quest items or rare materials.

  • Finished Products Chest: Completed items like Tappers, Sprinklers, etc.

Zone 2: Produce & Goods Storage (Left Side)

Place about 16 Chests, using different colors to categorize their contents.

  • Row 1: Seasonal Vegetables (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter).

  • Row 2: Fruits and Fruit Tree products.

  • Row 3: Artisan Goods like Cheese, Honey, Wine, etc.

  • Row 4: Miscellaneous & NPC Gifts (Books, Fishing Chest loot, etc.).

Zone 3: Furnace & Smelting Area (Bottom)

Set up 8-10 Furnaces for ore processing.

  • Regular Furnace: Made with 20 Copper Ore + 25 Stone. Smelts basic metals.

  • Heavy Furnace: Requires 2 Furnaces, 3 Iron Bars, 50 Stone. Can process 25 ores at once (needs 3 Coal).

  • Place dedicated Chests nearby for Coal and Ores to easily refuel.

Zone 4: Flowers & Fish Area (Below Zone 1)

Place 5 Chests:

  • 2 Flower Chests: Various flowers and plants used for Honey.

  • 2 Fish Chests: All caught fish.

  • 1 Bait & Tackle Chest: Fishing bait and related gear.

Zone 5: Recycling Area (Top Left)

Dedicated space for Recycling Machines to process trash and junk items.

  • If you favor the “Crab Pot” playstyle, this zone can also house your Crab Pot recycling system and resource sorting area.

Zone 6: Geode & Equipment Processing Area (Top Right)

Ideal for equipment enhancement and processing machines.

  • Suggested setup: 2 Crystalariums + 2 Geode Crushers + 1 Deconstructor.

  • Perfect for gem processing, equipment upgrading, or item breakdown.

Zone 7: Equipment & Collections Area (Adjacent to Zone 6)

Storage for personal gear and special collectibles.

  • Dresser: Rings, Shoes.

  • Weapons Chest: Frequently used weapons.

  • Trinkets Chest: Collectibles like Frog Egg, Fairy Box.

  • Artifacts Chest: Rare finds like Golden Mask, Strange Doll.

Management Tips

  1. Use Signs to label each zone clearly, improving retrieval efficiency.

  2. Prioritize setting up the Crafting and Furnace Areas to ensure smooth production flow.

  3. Manage Chest contents by color and order to minimize search time.

  4. Regularly clear out low-value items to maintain a tidy space.
